Climber Michael Kenny of the May 11 West Buttress team called in an update on the team from Camp Three at 14,200′. “active rest day” practiced skills for the upper mountain
They have officially put the sleds away for the remainder of the ascent, and will trade out their snowshoes and poles for crampons and ice axes.
Today they will spend their day carefully ascending the headwall up around Washburn’s Thumb to set their cache for their move up to High Camp at 17,200′! It sounds like the clear weather has decided to stick around for a few days, providing the team with spectacular views and great climbing.
