Intro to Backcountry Course
For those with little to no experience in the backcountry, Mountain Trip offers an introductory course designed to familiarize you with the basic skills needed for skiers and splitboarders. This course will take place during a full day of backcountry skiing or splitboarding in the Telluride area.
- Introduce you to basic techniques for backcountry skiing or splitboarding
- Familiarize you with the equipment you’ll need for backcountry skiing or splitboarding
- Prepare you for a Rec Level 1 Avalanche Course
This course does not provide comprehensive avalanche education, and is designed to introduce you to the basic skills needed to travel in the backcountry and can help prepare you to join a Rec 1 avalanche course.
The snowpack in the San Juan mountains is unique in many ways, with cold temperatures and high altitudes, we can find great powder during, or long after a storm. Our local Telluride guides are familiar with the local snowpack and are avalanche professionals with extensive training and experience. Mountain Trip is accredited by the American Mountain Guides Association (AMGA) and our lead guides all have AMGA ski guide training appropriate for the terrain or are fully certified ski guides.
Mountain Trip is the only guide service in Telluride to be accredited by the AMGA and we bring our skills and experience guiding the world’s tallest peaks home to the San Juan mountains.
