Vinson Pre Trip Information #5

One last email before you head out on your trip!

This email is designed to be forwarded on to anyone you’d like to have follow your trip.  We’ve included the links to get to your trip dispatches, and contact information for the Mountain Trip office if anyone should need to get in contact with you in case of emergency.

We will be posting daily expedition dispatches for your Vinson Expedition so that your friends and family can follow your progress.  Each climber will have an opportunity to call in and leave a message, so have some fun with it.  It’s always nice to hear some details of your daily experience in a place so far away from the reality of those at home.

We will be posting updates from Antarctica during the expedition.  Typically one team member will call in each day and leave us a recording with some details of the day and progress of the expedition.

Click on the link below and follow the Vinson expedition.

Mountain Trip Expedition Dispatch Page

We will endeavor to post daily updates, however please adhere to the adage of “No News Is Good News”.  Many considerations can prevent the guides from calling in on any given day, including mountain weather and terrain that can prevent our satellite phones from achieving a good connection.

The guides are also in daily contact with all of the other climbing teams on the mountain, as well as the Vinson Base Camp manager.  If they are unable to make a call some night, don’t worry they aren’t stranded or lost on the mountain.

If for any reason friends or family needs to contact a climber during the expedition please call or email the Mountain Trip office.   Typically we can contact the team within about 12 hours if it is an emergency.   Be aware that it is typically not possible to leave a trip early in Antarctica.  The plane only flies from Chile to Antarctica about every 10 days or so.

Please keep in mind we are in the Mountain Time Zone. (GMT -7)
