May 6 Denali Team – Weathering the storm

Mountain Trip’s May 6 Denali West Buttress Expedition called in with an update from Camp 1. Unfortunately, due to weather, the team is hunkered down at camp with a forecast of high winds and a lot of snow. In the meantime, the team is loading up on calories before they head further up the mountain, and keeping their fingers crossed for better weather.

The forecast for above 14,000′ calls for a high pressure system to build in the west this evening, which could potentially bring more snow, but the accumulation should only amount to a few inches today. With any luck, the skies will clear by this evening and they will awake to better conditions by daybreak. They’re hoping to move up to Camp 2 early tomorrow morning, and the outlook through Monday looks great with plenty of sunshine and clear skies in the forecast.

  1. So fun to watch your progress in the Delorme map and live vicariously as you climb. Exciting times. Be safe & climb on!

  2. Great job, Mountain Trip, on climb updates! Everything from the audios to the GPS tracker maps to the weather webcams are really fun (and reassuring) ways to follow the progress of our loved ones up high. Go, Grant! Ozzie Ozzie Ozzie, oi oi oi!

  3. Happy birthday Scott Smith! Hopefully you are enjoying a candy bar with a candle in it?

Thinking of you and wishing you and your team a safe and speedy journey to the summit.
