The team moved to Camp 1 at 7800′ on the 16th, and on the 17th they took advantage of the warm, clear weather to ferry a load of equipment and supplies up to a cache at 10,200′. Durny reports that the team made a point of getting up and out of camp early, in order to beat the heat of mid-day. Believe it or not, it can be down right blazing on the lower glacier!
The plan is to move to Camp 2 at 11,200′ on the 18th.
Denali Base Camp can be bustling at times. Also known as KIA (Kahiltna International Airport), it sees numerous ski planes come and go, delivering both climbers and sight seers to the glacier.
