Mountain Trip guide Brian Muller called in an update from 14,200′, where the June 19 West Buttress took a rest day yesterday.
While surrounded by low visibility and light snow that obscured the fixed lines up the headwall out of camp, the team took the day to further acclimate, rest, and prepare their mountaineering kits and skills before hitting the upper mountain (defined as anything above 14,000′).
If the weather shapes up according to the forecast, the team is hoping to make their push to Denali’s sought-after summit at 20,310′ on Sunday, tomorrow, July 2, or Monday July 3! We will keep you updated on the team’s progress as they endeavor higher on the West Buttress Route, onto steeper and more exposed sections in comparison to what they have yet encountered on the lower Kahiltna glacier.
Here’s Brian!
Thanks, Brian. Hope you can make a go for the summit Sunday. Fingers crossed everything lines up. Best wishes to everyone.
Way to go team! Stay strong.
