Mountain Trip lead guide Adam Smith called in from Base Camp on the Kahiltna Glacier with an update on the May 19 West Buttress Team, who have safely descended and are waiting for a flight out to Talkeetna.
After a difficult decision to turn around due to weather, they made the long trek to Base Camp all the way down from 14,200′, descending about 7,000′ vertical feet!
Now, they wait. The team is catching up on some much-needed sleep and waiting for the clouds to break so that a Talkeetna Air Taxi plane can make it into the range to retrieve them. Hopefully the team will be able to fly out today, but often the weather says otherwise.
Here’s Adam:
Glad y’ll are safely down. Hope the weather breaks soon so you can return home.

Thank you Rhonda for all your encouragement and prayers along the way. I am home now catching up on some rest after this long and rewarding adventure.
