Mountain Trip guide Jacob Schmitz called in with an update on the Everest Base Camp and Island Peak Trekking expedition, who were all successfully able to fly into Lukla early this morning (Monday, 9/19) after several days of weather delay. Half of the team flew in via helicopter, and the rest arrived on a fixed-wing plane. After reconvening, the team began their trek to Phakding.
They hiked for about two hours to reach approximately 9,000′, under calm, overcast skies. While they rest and familiarize themselves with the challenges of trekking at high elevation, a yak and porter team will make their way up with the rest of the team’s gear.
The team will trek on to the famous Namche Bazaar at 11,286′ tomorrow, where they will take a day to rest, acclimatize and peruse the unique wares and goods for sale by the Nepalese vendors scattered throughout the village.
