Mountain Trip guide Bill Allen called in with an update on the Gildor Denali team, who took a weather day at Camp 1, 7,800′ yesterday.
Bill reported that it snowed almost two feet total at Camp 1 at 7,800′, which is typically a particularly snowy zone on the lower route. Due to the lower elevation, the snow is wet and heavy, making travel exponentially more difficult.
They spent the day digging out tents, reading books, eating food and mentally preparing to move higher on the route.
The team hopes to single-carry this section and continue up to Camp 2 at 11,200′ today (Monday, 6/20) if they have a weather window and a bit of clearing.
