Lead guide Jacob Schmitz called in from Camp1 at 7,800′ on the Kahiltna Glacier. The team had a brief delay due to weather and could not fly out of Talkeetna on the 2nd, as planned. They spent the day reviewing skills and so they were ready to hit the glacier running. Well, actually, they got a few hours sleep before awakening at 3:00 am to move up the route.
They traveled about five miles up glacier, settling in at the base of a 1000′ hill known as Ski Hill. The plan is to take roughly half of their supplies and carry it up to around 10,200′ tomorrow, bury it in the snow (making a cache) and then return to today’s camp for the night.
Here is Jacob!
