Climber Steven called in with the update for the May 17 Team to let us know that spirits are high and that the team is making good use of their rest day at Camp 3 14,200 ft (m) by practicing their technical skills for the fixed lines!
Tomorrow the team’s goal will be to cache supplies up on the ridge above and return to 14,200′. Climbing up the “Headwall”, the section of the route with fixed lines running from 15,500 ft (4724 m) to 16,100 ft (4907 m) with a heavy pack makes this one of the more strenuous days of the trip because of the steep terrain and thinning air. The views from the ridge can be as breathtaking as the high altitude!
In total the team is preparing to make a 2.4 mile (3.8 km) round-trip, with 2,200 ft (670 m) of elevation gain and loss over 5-7 hours. We’re sure they’ll be well-rested and well-fed today to make the big push tomorrow. Can’t wait to hear how it goes!
