The May 17 Team called in with exciting news that they have successfully moved from Camp 2 11,000 ft (3353 m) to Camp 3 14,200 ft (4328 m) today! En route, they picked up their gear cache above Windy Corner 13,000 ft (3962 m) before pulling into their destination for the day with heavy packs and sleds. A hot meal was surely followed by tired climbers hitting their sleeping bags early.
While this is a strenuous day the team has a lot to be proud of! They’ve made it to the epicenter of the route and their personal high point of the trip. Here’s where it gets real!
While at “14 Camp” you’ll get to enjoy the high concentration of climbers from all over the world, conversing in various languages, and swapping climbing tales. If you’re lucky some friendly Argentinians might offer you some yerba maté for an extra kick of caffeine before you climb!
From here the team with dig in a camp for the next few days while they rest up and contemplate the technical terrain above them. They are done with snowshoes for the time being and will be ascending the fixed lines in crampons to cache gear above 16,100 ft (4907 m). We wish them clear skies and smooth sailing!
Awesome news! So proud of everyone on the team. Sounds like a great push. We wish you continued luck with good weather, and hope you all get to enjoy some days of rest at 14 Camp!
Lots of love,
Ally + Rosie
