Happy weekend, friends and family! Our May 7 Team wants you to know that they are absolutely slaying it up on the West Buttress. Not only did our guides treat the climbers to a delicious hamburger picnic after enjoying a grueling climbing day but, they are right on target for their trip itinerary! Forward progress is happening and this crew made quick work of their gear “carry” around Windy Corner (pictured below) 13,000 ft (3962 m) We love to hear it!
Tomorrow the team will break down Camp 2 and make the journey back up around Windy Corner to arrive at Camp 3 also known as “14 Camp” for its location at 14,200 ft (4328 m). This is usually a long, hard climb but, an exciting day. With about 3,200 ft of gain over 2.5 miles, the team will spend 5 to 7 hours climbing before they arrive at their destination – the epicenter of the West Buttress with incredible views and climbers from around the world gather here for days at a time.
The team will dig in their camp, back carry to dig up their cache at Windy Corner, and then take a rest day to practice skills they will need to ascend the fixed lines on “the Headwall” to 16,000 ft (4877 m). We can’t wait to hear how it goes! Keep up the strong work, team!
