As it sometimes happens our May 13 Team’s dispatch audio cut out over the radio – bummer! However, it is worth noting that from what you can hear our friends have safely arrived at Camp 2 at 11,000 ft (3353 m) and are doing well! This is an incredibly beautiful location that basks in alpenglow when the sun travels around the north side of the mountain. It’s quite a push from Camp 1 7,800 ft (2377 m) so, we’re stoked to hear that weather allowed the team to make their 3,200 ft (975 m) journey which takes about 5.5 – 7 hours of climbing time over glaciated terrain.
Heading out of Camp 1 the team got their first taste of what it’s like to carry heavy loads in their full packs and sleds (pictured below) up the 1,800 ft (549 m) Ski Hill. Several options exist for campsites between 9,000′ and 11,000′, depending on weather, snow conditions, and team strength. This is a moderately difficult carry of 7-9 miles round-trip that takes about 6-8 hours.
Strong work, May 13 crew! We look forward to hearing a full update from these folks tomorrow.
