Ryan called in with good news that the May 7 Team remains safe, healthy, and happy while continuing to hold for improved travel conditions at Camp 2 11,000 ft (3353 m)! While the total whiteout has lifted and the climbers have been able to finally enjoy some of the stunning views of Denali from camp strong winds have kept them bound to their camp for the time being.
This zone on the West Buttress can hold low-lying fog and clouds that can sit in basins like Camp 2 for days as our team is coming to understand. We are excited for our team to be able to progress when able. What’s next for them on the route?
When they are able to move they will encounter steep snow climbing up the 1,000 ft (305 m) high Motorcycle Hill with spectacular views along the way. The total distance for the day is about four miles round trip with a little over 2,000 ft (610 m) of elevation gain. Fun climbing with crampons and an ice axe awaits to move our crew around the famous Windy Corner where the upper mountain comes into view on the way into Camp 3 14,000 ft (4267 m).
There is certainly a lot to look forward to & we are looking forward to hearing from this team again tomorrow! Good things come to those who wait!
Fantastic! Sending positive thoughts 🙏🙏🙏❤️ to,the team
