The May 7 Denali team led by Dodge Garfield, Marcus Bailado, and Ana LaSusa successfully guided their clients through their first 3-day weather hold. Also known as the legendary “Talkeetna hang”, extended weather holds like these are par for the course in Alaska where low-lying clouds make it unsafe for small glacier planes to fly into the range.
The team has remained in high spirits, nonetheless, using this extra time to focus on team building, refreshing essential rope skills, and enjoying a few more nights in civilization. Extra practice with crevasse rescue systems, running belays, and knots will serve the team well when they arrive on the mountain. Way to remain adaptable, friends!
Our fingers are crossed for a clear weather window that will allow our team to pile their hundreds of pounds of expedition gear onto the Talkeetna Air Taxi and make the flight into basecamp on the Kahiltna glacier! Stay tuned.
