The Mountain Trip May 10 West Buttress Team arrived in Kahiltna Basecamp yesterday afternoon after spending a day and a half in Talkeetna on standby due to weather. The team settled into camp last night with hot drinks and sights set on moving to Camp 1 (7,800′) today. The move to Camp 1 is a 5.5 mile trek up the Kahiltna Glacier, with about 1000′ of elevation gain. This is often said by climbers to be one of the most difficult days of the expedition, due to the heavy loads. Each climber flies on with about 110 lbs of gear!
The weather continues to be stubborn with socked in and snowy conditions. However, the weather is forecasted to improve in the coming days. Let’s all hope for some high pressure!!
Here’s Lead Guide, Matt Park with the dispatch. Have a listen:
So excited for you all to make this epic journey. Patrick, sending hugs and sending good vibes and prayers for a safe summit to you and your team! Enjoy the ride!
“The summit is what drives us, but the climb itself is what matters.” -Conrad Anker
