Once again, the winds have unfortunately prevented teams from going to the summit. The May 20 Denali West Buttress team called in an update from High Camp at 17,200′.
They hope to make their summit push TODAY, June 5. We will update you on whether or not they decided to make a go for it. Summit day is a long day, typically anywhere between 9 and 12 hours, depending on conditions and how the team is feeling. They make their way up from 17,200′ up to an exposed, aesthetic ridge with views over the entire Alaska Range, below them. The sheer drops on each side, the cold temperatures and high elevations of this last push of the route demand good weather conditions for the teams to justify making a go at it.
Here’s the team!
