Climber David Haffner called in an update on the January 6 Aconcagua team, who took a second rest day at Camp Two at 18,000′. The team did a bit of carb loading with cake for lunch and did a bit of wildlife spotting from their high (and undoubtedly windy) position on the mountain. Tomorrow, the team will climb steeply out of Camp Two and then ascend gradually up to a shallow basin, filled with bizarre purple and white rocks. Weaving through the rocks makes for some surreal hiking. At the top of the basin, perched on the north ridge of Aconcagua, is High Camp, at just over 20,000′.
We will post photos as we receive them from the team. A couple of days from now they will be headed for the summit!
Here’s David with the update!
