The May 22nd West Buttress Denali Expedition is preparing themselves for a summit attempt by resting and acclimatizing at High Camp.
Listen all about it here: Audio Recording
They got to practice their “summit drills”, in which climbers practice putting on their goggles, facemask, and heavy mitts without taking their gloves off. This is an essential skill for preventing frostbite on summit day, when temperatures can often hover just below zero degrees Fahrenheit!
The team also bought snow walls to fortify their camp from strong winds. We hope that the weather looks good in a day or two for them to make their attempt at the summit!
