Hello everyone,
Thank you for following the blog and all of the support. We’re back in Anchorage where it is summer! There is nothing better than flying off a glacier and being able to enjoy the sun and vegetation.
We had a great trip, it seamed that we hit the perfect weather window. The conditions on the mountain were great. We had enough human power to make some amazing camps with grand kitchen areas to hang out in.
After a relatively warm summit day, although we were in the clouds and the views were not as impressive as usual. We moved down to 14,000′ camp for a much needed rest day. On our way down the mountain we had to stop and set up camp at 9,800′ because of the weather. We got caught in a little wind and snow storm. Because we wanted to hike out the lower Kahiltna glacier at night to take advantage of the colder temps, we had to spend an extra day at the Ski Hill camp (7,800′). We left camp around 11:00 pm and made it to Kahiltna international airport at 4am, where we enjoyed chili, chips and salsa. The next day after sleeping in having endless coffee and chocolate chip pancakes we were able to fly out around 4:30.
Back in Talkeetna we all enjoyed burgers and a well deserved beer.
Until next time, Catching a break on the polo fields
