Today, a team of climbers from around the globe will meet in Anchorage as part of the next step in their preparations for an attempt of the West Buttress route of Denali. Today will be busy with a morning team meeting and a comprehensive equipment check, directed by a team of our guides. Following the gear check, there will undoubtedly be a trip around Anchorage to pick up last minute essentials or items that the climbers might choose to upgrade. It makes for a full day!
Let’s meet the climbers:
Birgitte Nohr from Denmark
Steve Taylor from the UK
John Davies from Canada
John Niedermeier from the US
Thanos Koukoutsakis from the UK
Enrico Cambini from Italia
Pieter van den Broeke from The Netherlands
And the Guides:
Adam Smith from Alaska
Ian Havlik from Colorado
Kyle Bates from Alaska
We will endeavor to post updates as often as we receive them and the team will call in audio updates as often as possible. As simple as making a call sounds from the comfort of home, it can seem a bit challenging at times , while on a big, cold mountain like Denali. If the wind is howling and the snow flying, the team might not ring us, so please hold onto the old axiom, “No News is Good News.”
We encourage you to post comments for the team, but please understand that it is not possible for us to regularly pass your comments along to the climbers while they are on the mountain. They will certainly appreciate your good wishes and kind thoughts once they return to “civilization” and read your posts, so please add your voice to their dispatches.
