The team had a great day on the mountain, carrying a load of fuel, food, and some gear up to 10,200 ft from camp at 7,800 ft. They dug a deep pit in the snow and cached the extra food and fuel to pick up in a couple of days, and then returned to Camp 1 to spend the night. This will be the strategy for the rest of the expedition, to carry loads up above and put in a cache, and then move up with lighter loads the next day. It’s a great way to break up the loads and to acclimatize to every increasing altitude with each move. It sounds like the team did great today and had enough energy to celebrate Nate’s birthday this evening!
The view from camp 1 on a clear day!
Here’s Nate checking in, and the team with a Happy Birthday.
Hey Rusty. Take enough beef jerky up that hill, you jerky!
