This team of climbers truly spoiled the guides with their hard work, positive attitudes, and ability to handle themselves in wind and weather. It was truly a joy being in the mountains with everyone.
Even the weather days playing Yahtzee in the kitchen tent were fun. Every time the weather got bad and the wind picked up, we would get to camp and everyone would exclaim, “It was a gorgeous day just like Easter.”
Unfortunately, we did not get the weather window to move to 17.2 camp or the summit. We had a gorgeous decent from 14,000 ft. to Base Camp, hiking through the night.
When we checked out at the ranger station in Talkeetna, the summit percentage rate was 1.6% with only three people reaching the top so far this season, which is by far the lowest I have ever seen it in my nine years of guiding on Denali. There is no doubt in my mind that if we had had a small, timely break in the weather everyone in this group would have summited.
Thanks for all your hard work and for all the smiles!
