June 21 West Buttress Expedition – Rest Day at Camp 3

Yesterday, everyone enjoyed a rest day at 14,200′ (4328m). They spent the day napping, reading, eating all of their snacks, and hydrating. On these days guide teams will often whip up a tasty lunch for everyone in addition to a nice dinner. Rest days allow the team to recover from their journey and acclimatize to the altitude. Teams spend the most time at Camp 3 of any camp (at least intentionally) in order to give their bodies the best chance to get use to the altitude. Time spent here is often filled with card games or made up camp games. Even though it may seem like it would be very cold there, the body acclimates to the temperatures and a calm sunny day can feel very comfortable. Its not uncommon to see folks drag their foam sleeping pads outside and stretch or chill in the sunshine.

The team was unable to call in last night, but we have been in touch with them through other means!
