Yesterday the team packed up everything at Camp 2 (11,200′ 3413m) and started up Motorcycle Hill, then Squirrel Hill, then onto the Polo Field where the glacier gradually continues to gain elevation up to Windy Corner. The team got around Windy Corner and climbed up into Genet Basin where Camp 3 resides at 14,200′ (4328m). Camp 3 sits below the West Buttress, and its granite walls rise up above the mountaineers. Getting to Camp 3 is an exciting part of the journey. Here, climbers can look up above camp at the Headwall where the Fixed Lines rise up to the ridge at 16,200′ (4937m). From their vantage point below, our mountaineers can see the ridge as it climbs higher and higher in elevation up to the summit which rises out of site. It is from here that teams will wait for their weather window to move up to High Camp and then on to a summit bid. Many teams congregate in this camp from all over the world and many different backgrounds. The views as you look out from camp towards the dramatic drop off they call the Edge of the World reveal a phenomenal view of Mount Foraker (Sultana) as it rises from the Kahiltna Glacier. Today the team is resting after their big effort to move into Camp 3.
