Lead Guide Brian Kramp called in from the team’s Camp 2, located in a beautiful basin at 11,200′ (3414m) at the base of the West Buttress of Denali. Today was a “backcarry” day, meaning they made a quick jaunt downhill to the site where they buried a cache of supplies two days ago, retrieved their cache and brought everything back up to camp. It was a pretty easy day compared to the previous days on the trail, so in some respects, it was an active rest day.
The plan for tomorrow is to carry loads up to an elevation of about 13,500′ (4115m) and bury them as another cache. They will then descend back to Camp 2 for the night, following the tried-and-true climber axiom of “climb high and sleep low.”
