The May 19th West Buttress Denali Expedition team is off the mountain and back in civilization.
Here is the final report from their expedition from Lead Guide Tom Huntley:
Embarking on the Denali West Buttress expedition from May 19th to June 8th, 2024, our team faced a diverse array of challenges and triumphs under the guidance of Tom Huntley, who stepped up as lead guide after Jacob Schmitz’s early injury. From navigating unpredictable weather patterns, to addressing equipment malfunctions, and accommodating varying skill levels among our clients, each obstacle demanded adaptability and resilience.
Despite setbacks, including a pivotal summit attempt halted by adverse conditions and concerns over client preparedness, our team remained steadfast in prioritizing safety and maintaining cohesion. Throughout the expedition, moments of camaraderie and shared determination enhanced our collective spirit, fortifying us as we navigated the rugged terrain of Denali.
As the journey concluded with a safe return to Talkeetna, it left behind a lasting testament to the grit, unity, and indomitable spirit that define the mountaineering experience amidst the awe-inspiring landscapes of Alaska.
Thanks for the adventure, everyone!
