December 16 Aconcagua – Meet the Team!

Our first Aconcagua team of the season has assembled in Mendoza! Truly the “Roof of the Americas,” Cerro Aconcagua, at 22,841 ft. (6,962 meters) is not only the highest mountain in South America, but also the highest peak outside of Asia. They will approach via the Ameghino Valley route and establish various camps along the way to help acclimatize as they head for the summit. The next couple of weeks will hold many challenges but also spectacular rewards for the team.

In the morning, the team will pick up climbing permits in the morning and then drive 2.5 hours to the ski resort of Penitentes where they will organize gear for the “arrieros” (mule drivers) to carry in on their three day approach to their Base Camp.

Let’s meet the team (from right to left)!

Agne Rackauskaite, from the U.K.

Liina Kallassalu, from Finland.

Adrian Fehr, of California, USA.

Julia Zhou, also joining us from California.

Lead guide Fermin Avila, who has guided for Mountain Trip for many seasons and is one of the most highly respected guides on the mountain.

We will post updates from the team as we receive them, but please keep in mind the adage: “No news is good news.” Oftentimes the team will be busy on the mountain, in areas of low reception, or simply to tired from the days of moving up the route at high altitude, and wont have the chance to call in.

Best of luck to the team!
