Zach called in from 14,200′ (4328m) today. The team took a rest day today, after moving up the fixed lines yesterday. They carried some of their food and supplies for their summit bid up to a spot at about 16,200′. going up and down the fixed lines is a pretty big day, and so they are taking a mellow day today in the hopes that they will feel more fresh for the even harder day when they move to high camp tomorrow.
They took a stroll over to a place at the far southeast edge of the broad basin that forms the 14,200′ camp. This spot is called “The Edge of the World” for you can look down into the depths of the Northeast Fork of the Kahiltna and can actually see the site of their first camp, almost 7,000′ below them!
The weather looks good and the team feels strong, so it looks probable that they will move up to high camp tomorrow. We’ll keep you posted!
