Liina called in on behalf of the December 16th Aconcagua team. They are resting and watching high winds on the upper mountain, hoping for a lull in the wind. There is a significant wind event forecast for the upper mountain and so the team is hunkered down in the relative lower wind zone of Camp 2 for the time being.
We monitor three different weather models and all three are calling for 60-70 mph (95-115 kph) winds on the summit and only slightly lower speeds at High Camp. Rather than move up into what could be burly conditions, they are resting and waiting, poised to make a quick lap to High Camp and sneak in a summit bid, should the winds slacken.
Here is Liina!
