They’re on the summit of Aconcagua! Congratulations to the team they’re on the summit of Aconcagua right now! It was a beautiful day, but it’s a long climb at very high altitude and they’re tired climbers. They left high camp early this morning and climbed at dusk, watching the sun climb up over Argentina casting a long shadow into Chile. They climbed up past the old Independencia Hut, across the “grand traverse”, and finally up the Caneleta, which is the final steep challenge leading to the 22,841 foot summit.
They’ll start working their way down the mountain after some summit pics and settle into their tents back at high camp for the night before continuing their descent in the morning.
Congratulations to John, Tanaia, Katie, and our guide Fermin for reaching the top of South America today!
Here’s John calling in from the summit of Aconcagua.
