The snow has been a bit slow in coming to our beloved San Juan mountains in SW Colorado this winter, but the ice climbing has been great. The crew in Alaska is experiencing a huge winter right now with record breaking snow fall, but down in Colorado we’re still waiting. The skiing has suffered from the lack of snow, but the ice climbing has been great. Our good friend and guide Kevin Koprek has taken over as the “Ice Man” at the Ouray Ice Park this winter and spends most of his mornings turning on and off the water to keep the ice formed up at the park. He is still climbing plenty of ice himself, and went out yesterday with another MT guide, Karen Bockel, to climb the classic Bridal Veil Falls at the head of the box canyon above Telluride.
Here’s a couple of pics from this legendary climb.
Forecast is calling for some snow in the San Juans the next few days!
