They trekked up to Everest Base Camp (EBC) today from the village of Gorak Shep. Gorak Shep is the highest village on the trek at 16,950 ft just off of the Khumbu Glacier. The temperatures drop the higher they get, and nights can definitely be chilly up high in the Himalayas. It’s a 2-3 hour hike up to the traditional site of Everest Base Camp, right on the ice of the Khumbu Glacier, and the team spent today hiking up and exploring around base camp. The busy Everest climbing season is in April and May, so they won’t see the city of tents that pops up, but it is a beautiful and iconic spot to visit.
Here’s the text we received from the team from EBC.
Hey guys,
We had a great day today. Nice weather and amazing views at EBC. Tomorrow we are going to go up Kalapattar at 4am then head down to Lobuche.
Cheers!
Jacob
