Erik Guevara Merino called in from 11,200′ to give us an update on the day’s activity.  The team descended to about 10,000′ to retrieve the cache of supplies that they had buried a couple days earlier.  This is a pretty easy day, and they worked about two hours in total.

Active rest days like this are good because they enable the team to move the mountain of supplies necessary to climb Denali and also help the climbers acclimatize, by stressing their bodies a little bit with moderate effort.  All that breathing helps their systems acclimate better than just resting in their tents.

In the afternoon, they reviewed crampon and ice axe technique, as they will be wearing crampons for much of the remainder of their climb.

Erik Guevara Merino llamó desde 3400m para darnos información actualizada sobre la actividad del día. El equipo descendió a alrededor de 3050m para recojer el caché de los suministros que habían enterrado un par de días antes. Este es un día muy fácil, y trabajaron alrededor de dos horas en total.

Días de descanso activo como esta son buenas porque permiten al equipo para mover la montaña de los suministros necesarios para subir Denali y también ayudar a los escaladores de aclimatación, haciendo hincapié en sus cuerpos un poco con un esfuerzo moderado. Todo lo que la respiración ayuda a sus sistemas de aclimatarse mejor que simplemente descansando en sus tiendas (carpas).

Por la tarde, revisaron crampones y piolet, ya que va a usar crampones durante gran parte del resto de su ascenso.
