May 8 Team – Windy Corner Cache is IN!

The May 8 Team is going strong with gorgeous weather that has allowed them to make forward progress on the next leg of their journey from their home at Camp 2 11,000 ft (3353 m) to their cache site around Windy Corner 13,000 ft (3963 m)! Not only does this serve as an outing for the team without having to break down their entire camp it makes for lighter travel days to move heavy gear over the course of multiple days.

In addition, it allows the team to acclimatize and get the initial exposure their bodies need to adjust to the thinner air at higher elevations. The team found the classic icy conditions and were able to test out their climbing techniques with crampons for the first time on the route. From the dispatch, the team put in a strong effort that let them safely and successfully achieve their goal in a beautiful new zone on the route! Congratulations, crew!

Back at camp, the team had an extra tasty dinner to prepare for tomorrow where they will break camp for the first time in five days and make their way to the epicenter of the West Buttress, 14,000 ft (4267 m) camp! We can’t wait to hear how it goes.
