June 16 West Buttress Team – Wind at Windy Corner and a move to 14-Camp

Elias called in an update from 14,200′ Camp Three! Reaching this camp is a milestone for climbers on the route, and they’re rewarded with absolutely spectacular views, already high above many of the peaks of the Alaska Range. The team will stay here upwards of three days, acclimatizing, practicing skills for the upper mountain and caching above the fixed lines. The summit grows ever closer for the team!

They moved up from Camp Two around Windy Corner–which lived up to its namesake–to reach their new home at 14,200′. We’re hoping for a high pressure system to move back in so that the team is able to continue to progress up the route.

Here’s Elias!

  1. Fantastic news Sue! Saw this quote and thought of you guys:
“Live your life each day as if you would climb a mountain. An occasional glance toward the summit keeps the goal in mind, but many beautiful scenes are to be observed from each new vantage point.” – Harold Melchart
Enjoy the views…can’t wait to see your pictures!!
    Laura & Kim 😘

  2. Way to go June 16 team! Sue – know that Angel, Mai Tai, Tux, Coco, and I are so proud of you for reaching this incredible milestone! We pray that the weather conditions are acceptable for taking the next steps, and for continued safety. Enjoy this expedition!
