May 14 Team – Back Carried from 10,000′

Lead Guide Sebastian “Seba” Grau called in from the beautiful basin camp at 11,200′.  The team slept in a bit this morning, before dropping down to retrieve the cache of supplies that they had buried a couple of days earlier.  after digging their cache from the snow, they loaded it all up and hiked back to camp.  All in all, it was a pretty mellow day, except for the weather, which has been dumping snow on them.

After completing their back carry, they donned crampons for some practice with the techniques that they will need to employ in the coming days.

West-Buttress-Route-Map1The route above 11,200′ steepens, and crampons help climbers ascend icy, steep slopes.  Using them efficiently requires some technique and our guides wanted to make certain that all the team members were comfortable with crampon and ice axe use.  This team is doing great, and by all accounts, they are ready for the upper mountain!
