Mountain Trip lead guide Yoshiko called in an update on the May 13 West Buttress team, who took a convenient rest day just as the weather on the upper mountain began to enter into a low pressure and high wind system.
The team spent the majority of the day building up and fortifying the snow walls around their camp, and building up a better and more comfortable bathroom area. It’s likely these walls will come in handy for them, as they might be weathering the storm for the next few days. The park mountaineering forecast is calling for increasing winds and heavy snow through Monday morning. Winds and snow are forecasted to diminish on Tuesday. The team is in position to move up higher once the weather allows safe passage.
