Getting Closer to EBC: The team arrives in Lobuche (16,207’/5100m)

Dispatch from the Mountain Trip Mount Everest Team, April 17th, 2021.

We are currently settled in the small village of Lobouche at over 16,000′ on the route to Everest Base Camp. The weather has become clear and sunny now after a dusting of snow yesterday. Everyone is enjoying the trek and doing well. We have encountered very few other trekkers on the trails, and those who we have met are mostly heading for Everest or other expedition climbs in the high peaks. We have been working our way up through the Khumbu over the last week, acclimatizing slowly with plans to arrive in Base Camp tomorrow, April 18th.

We spent the last three days in Dingboche at our friend Migma Sherpa’s lodge, the Snow Lion. Mountain Trip teams have been visiting this particular lodge for the past two decades. Migma spends time in Switzerland and is an accomplished baker of French-style pastries and excellent barista of delicious specialty coffee drinks. It’s always a great place to spend a few days acclimatizing and taking in the spectacular views of the high peaks in every direction.

Everyone is very excited to be getting close to Base Camp. We are planning to hold our Puja on April19th, a local ceremony to bless and wish all members of the climbing team and Sherpas good luck before venturing up onto Mount Everest.

We have a busy few days planned after arriving at Base Camp with some training sessions, hikes and orientation to all that it takes higher on the mountain. We will be in touch once again when we soon reach EBC.

Cheers,
Scott Woolums
