Meet the May 14 Denali Team!

Mountain Trip is thrilled to welcome a team of climbers from around the globe to our May 14, 2016 Denali expedition.

The team met in Anchorage yesterday, first partaking in an orientation provided by our three guides.  Our guides then checked all the clothing and equipment that each climber brought to Alaska, to ensure that they have what they need, but not too much kit – ounces add up to pounds in the mountains!  With all the gear checked, the climbers selected what snacks they would like to eat for the next three weeks.

We give our climbers ownership of that decision making, so, under the auspices of our guide team, each climber filled a couple of bags full of energy bars, cookies, candy, meats, cheeses and nuts.  Finally, they headed out on the town to pick up last minute items that each climber might need to purchase.

Let’s meet the climbers!

David Kozma from Colorado, USA

Debbie Posewitz from Wisconsin, USA

James Becker from North Carolina, USA

PS Sim from Sinagapore, by way of NYC

Wendy Gustin from Colorado, USA

Luigi Laraia from Italy, by way of Washington, DC

And our Mountain Trip Guide Team:

Sebastian Grau from Chile, by way of Colorado, USA

Gary Falk from Colorado, USA

Mike Coyle from Colorado, USA

The team is traveling to Talkeetna, Alaska today, where they are meeting with Rangers from the National Park Service, who will provide an additional orientation required of all Denali climbers.  They will then head over to the airstrip and sort loads for the flight into the Alaska Range, courtesy our long-time friends at Talkeetna Air Taxi.  Once they are wheels up, it will be a short 30-40 minute flight to the Southeast Fork of the Kahiltna Glacier, also known as Denali Base Camp!

We encourage you to follow the team as they make their way up the West Buttress route of Denali.  We will endeavor to post updates on a daily basis, but any number of circumstances could make us miss a day or two.  The team members will call in from the field and share their experiences in their own words, which can be a lot of fun!  Please post comments to the posts, as climbers love reading them when they get down from the mountain.  Unfortunately, we don;t have a good system to pass comments along to the climbers while they are on the mountain, but post your good thoughts!

Enjoy!
