May 26 Team Backcarried from 10,200′

One of our guide’s, David Lapidus, called in last night. The team left Camp 2 at 11,200′ (3413m) early yesterday morning to descend not too far to their cache site at 10,200′ (3108m). They dug up their first cache of the expedition, packed it up, and ascended the 1,000′ back to Camp 2. We call these “active rest days”. They are much easier days than moving camp, with lighter packs and just a couple hours or so on your feet. It allows the team to get out and stretch their legs, get some fresh air, and still have plenty of time to rest, hydrate, and refuel back at camp. Often teams will use these rest days to practice snow skills as well. For this team, they are likely caching at Windy Corner today which requires they don their crampons and bring out their ice axes. Skills they probably spent some time practicing yesterday.
