May 10 Team – “Talkeetna Hang”

Here’s an update on the team from lead guide Matt Park. Unfortunately they were not able to fly when scheduled due to weather.

1,200 pounds worth of gear packed and ready to fly into the Alaska Range.

Due to COVID we got our briefing from the NPS outside of Talkeetna Air Taxi instead of at the Walter-Harper ranger station.

At 4:30pm we got word from Talkeetna Air Taxi that they had called off flights for the day. So we figured out our accommodations in Talkeetna and got some dinner! Hopefully the crew doesn’t compare our dinners on the mountain to the food at Denali Brewing  We’ll see what the weather has in store for us tomorrow.

Weather in the Alaska range this time of year is extremely unpredictable. Melting snows change wind patterns and warming temps over the ocean inject more moisture inland. So we are on a weather hold waiting for a window to open up where Talkeetna Air Taxi can sneak us into the Kahiltna. Fingers crossed!

  1. Dave, From this report you were delayed flying in due to weather. Hope that’s changed and you can start climbing soon. Thanks for sending the link. Good luck!
