June 22 Team Caches at Camp 3

Yesterday this crew climbed up from Camp 2 at 11,200′ (3413m). They tackled first the mile long Motorcycle Hill. Once they topped out here, they next climbed up Squirrel Hill. From Squirrel Hill, the team has an impressive view of the Peters Glacier several thousand feet below. Above Squirrel Hill, the Polo Field stretches across connecting these climbs to Windy Corner. The Polo Field is a slightly upsloping basin of the glacier. Here, the granite wall of the West Buttress begins to rise on climbers left. At Windy Corner, this monolith makes an almost 180* turn into Genet Basin, and the winds will often pick up speed around this terrain feature, earning its name. After crossing Windy Corner, the team climbs up into Camp 3 at 14,200′ (4328m). They dug a one meter deep hole into the glacier here, and threw in their chosen supplies. They will retrieve it later when they move camps.
