Vinson Team At BaseCamp

Antarctica Vinson Base Camp

Looking up towards Vinson from basecamp

The Mountain Trip Vinson Team made it to basecamp today! They caught a break in the weather and the ski-equipped twin otter planes flew them from their temporary home at Union Glacier to the base camp at the foot of Mount Vinson at just over 7000 ft. The views from this camp are spectacular as they look down the glacier and out over the continent of ice, and above them the high peaks of the Vinson Massif.

We’ve got a big comfortable dome tent with chairs, etc. for basecamp, so they aren’t roughing it too much yet, but they’ll launch off for Camp 1 tomorrow carrying everything they need for 6-7 days of Antarctic climbing.

Brad had the sat phone tonight and called in the dispatch from Vinson Basecamp!
