Guide Sebastian Grau called in around quarter to 9pm AK time to do the daily check-in. Seba was in the cook tent; I could hear the stoves burning in the background melting snow into water. The rest of the expedition had gone to bed already after putting in a good day’s work breaking trail through 2′ of powder snow up to around 10k, where they put in a cache of gear and then returned to camp 1. It was another long day of travel, as breaking trail is always a grueling task, but everyone went to bed happy and full of good food and are resting up for another big day tomorrow: attempting to move to camp 2 at about 11k.
