West Rib Team Is At Camp 3

Lead Guide Fischer Hazen called in from 14,200′, where he, Dave Helland and Matt Park are all spending tonight, following a strong showing moving up from 11,200′ in about six hours.  They have been on the move daily for the past week and are looking forward to resting tomorrow, sleeping in and having lots of coffee.

They climbed back up Motorcycle Hill, and around Windy Corner again today, passing their cache and arriving in the broad Genet Basin, often called Cap 3 or simply, “14 Camp.”  There is a strong NPS presence at this camp, with a Ranger patrol and a medical tent.  It is sort of the Advanced Base Camp for this side of the mountain.

They will rest and acclimatize here before formulating their plan for an attempt of the West Rib.
