Welcome to our 2011 Mount Everest Expedition

Thank you for joining us as our team of climbers attempts to climb the highest peak on earth.  An expedition to Mount Everest is a long, arduous affair, and successful ascents require months of planning and preparation.  Our guides and Nepali staff have been working tirelessly for the past six months to ensure that the multitude of logistics necessary are in place so that those climbers trusting us to assist them with their Everest dreams will have the experience of a lifetime.

Our team is currently assembling in Kathmandu, Nepal and will board a fixed wing airplane to fly to the short airstrip in the town of Lukla, elevation 9,100′ (2800m), the gateway to the legendary Khumbu region of Nepal.  From Lukla, the team will trek to Everest Base Camp (EBC) over the course of 10 days.  The extreme altitude of Mount Everest requires that climbers take their time in ascending its flanks, as their bodies must be allowed sufficient time to acclimatize to the ever thinning air at each higher elevation.  Every individual acclimatizes differently, however our team will follow an acclimatization schedule that has proven optimal for most climbers over many previous Everest expeditions.

Let’s meet the team!

Ephi Gildor lives in Aspen, CO.  He has climbed with Mountain Trip on Denali, Aconcagua, Mt. Vinson, Elbrus, and Carstensz Pyramid.

Newall Hunter lives in the UK and joined us on Denali last summer.

Ireneusz Szpot hails from Poland and an ascent of Everest would mark his completion of the Seven Summits.

Gregg Mellon is from Ontario, Canada and also climbed with us on Denali last summer.

Chris Davenport is from Snowmass, CO and has climbed and skied around the world, including several previous expeditions to the Himalaya.   Chris is a well respected skier and mountaineer who brings a wealth of experience to the expedition.  Check out his website at: www.chrisdavenport.com

Neil Beidleman is returning to Everest from his home in Aspen, CO.  He brings a wealth of big mountain experience to our team, including ascents of four 8000m peaks, including K2, Everest, Cho Oyu and Makalu.

Scott Woolums is our expedition leader and will be attempting his 6th ascent of Everest this year.  Scott lives in Hood River, OR and has been guiding for Mountain Trip since the early 1990’s.

Bill Allen is one of the owners of Mountain Trip and lives in Ophir, CO when he’s not out guiding in the big mountains.  He is returning to Everest after helping lead our 2010 Everest team to their 100% successful summit.  Let’s hope for a repeat!
