Denali Team Stuart – Pushing up glacier!

Duncan called in from Camp 1+, at about 9300′ on the Kahiltna Glacier.  Capitalizing on the amazing weather, the team hiked past the traditional Camp 1 at 7,800′ and climbed up a feature known as Ski Hill in a long, tough day.

The morning began with a 06:00 departure from Base Camp.  They descended the Southeast Fork of the Kahiltna until it joined the main body of the broad Kahiltna Glacier, a 40 mile river of ice flowing southward from the western flank of Denali.  Turning to their right, the team hiked their loads up the glaicer, passing some beautiful peaks, such as Mount Francis, Point Farine, and West Kahiltna Peak as they made their way up in elevation.

The plan is to pack up camp early in the morning and move up again, with the goal of establishing themselves in a basin located just shy of 2000′ above their current location.
