June 15th Calling in from Camp 2

Calling in from Camp 2 (11,000 ft / 3,353 m) after a full descent from high camp, the team made the clear decision to head down as avalanche conditions on the Autobahn have rendered the upper mountain impassable. With no safe summit window and persistent instability on the steep, exposed slope above 17,200 feet (5,243 m), the season for climbing the Autobahn has officially come to an end.

The crew moved well and stayed connected through the downclimb, navigating the fixed lines, headwall, and glacier zones with focus and care. They are now resting at Camp 2, holding tight as a round of thunder, lightning, and graupel passes through the lower mountain. Everyone is safe, in good spirits, and awaiting a break in the weather to complete their final leg to basecamp at 7,200 feet (2,195 m).

From here, they’ll rest, refuel, and prepare for their return to Talkeetna as soon as flying weather allows. Strong work to this crew for their smart decisions, solid teamwork, and powerful effort in tough conditions. Stay tuned for their final dispatch from base.
